FLORIMO®
Bonsai soil

When planting, make sure you buy a product of guaranteed quality!
From a Hungarian manufacturer!

It is advisable to repot bonsai trees every few years; when doing so, it is recommended to use a specialised potting mix. Florimo Bonsai soil is characterised by its neutral pH, good water absorption and drainage properties. Repotting can be stressful for your plant. You should repot when you encounter problems with the growing medium’s water absorption: if it absorbs water too quickly, the plant’s leaves fall off, or you discover pests on it. Handle the roots with care and take care not to damage them during repotting.

Our general recommendations for potting soils and growing media containing wood fibre:

  • When planting, it is advisable to mix perlite into the soil to improve water retention.
  • To ensure an adequate supply of nutrients, it is advisable to use organic or mineral fertiliser at the time of planting, even if this means changing our previous practice. In a fibrous growing medium, particular attention must be paid to the plants’ nitrogen supply.
  • Options for replenishing nutrients:
    • Fertiliser solution: Apply every 1–2 weeks, or regularly in smaller doses mixed with the watering water. Don’t neglect your plant – keep an eye on its growth!
    • fertiliser stick: placed near the root zone, it ensures a continuous supply of nutrients.
The two approaches can be combined, but they should be used in moderation.
  • Extra care is required when watering:
    • the medium may dry out more quickly
    • The surface may appear dry, whilst it is still damp underneath, so always check the deeper layers of the soil as well
  • Let’s take extra care to conserve water! To help with this, we recommend:
    • our ground cover plants,
    • our decorative clay granules
