Soil pH is very important in gardening, as it fundamentally determines plants’ growth and their ability to absorb nutrients. Acidic soil is relatively rare in this country, so we need to ensure the soil has an acidic pH in various ways if we want to keep our favourite plants.
Plants that prefer acidic potting soil: African violet, Alocasia, Pineapple plant, Begonia (leafy), Calathea, Flamingo, Gardenia, Gloxinia, Hydrangea, Ixora, Primrose, Ferns in general, Indoor pine, etc.
These plants thrive only in an acidic environment; without it, their growth stagnates, they suffer from a lack of nutrients, and their condition steadily deteriorates. The “Type A” acidic potting compost for houseplants is the ideal medium for them.
Our general recommendations for potting soils and growing media containing wood fibre:
It does matter what quality of potting compost you buy. Choose certified quality!
