Since water warms up later compared to the air, we recommend planting aquatic plants in April and May. Aquatic plants require a specialized planting medium. It is crucial that the medium is not excessively clayey and lacks organic substances such as wood branches or plant fibres. Importantly, avoid using general potting soil, as it is not designed for a consistently moist environment.

For planting aquatic and marsh plants (e.g., water lily, iris, cattail, bulrush, marigold, arrowhead).
Clay, River sand, Sphagnum moss peat, Composted cattle manure, Lowland peat.
After establishing the garden pond, create a mound of earth at its deepest point. Position the plant on top, then cover it with aquatic plant substrate from the inside out, then compacting the medium. If using a plant basket, add a layer of substrate at the basket’s base, place the plant, and gently compact the material. For a decorative touch and to prevent floating, consider adding smaller stones or gravel atop the substrate. Once the planting is complete, gradually fill the pond with water, removing any materials that surface. Avoid adding extra nutrients to the water plant.
